Early Life
Asin Thottumkal was born on October 26, 1985 in Kochi city of Kerala in India to Joseph Thottumkal and Seline Thottumkal. She did her schooling from Naval Public School till highschool and then intermediate from St. Teresa's School. She completed her graduation from St. Joseph College (Women) in B.A. (Literature). Her father is a businessman while mother is a surgeon.
Film Career
Asin started his career in 2001 as a supporting artist in Malaya film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka when she was only 15. She won her first South Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the telugu film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi. That was her first film as an actress. Many films followed, various offers from south started coming her way and she did her best to prove her acting skills.
Her second film fetched another Best Actress Award for Ghajini (Tamil) in 2005. She also appeared in M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi, Majaa, Sivakasi and Varalaru. In Ghajini she played a model named Kalpana opposite Surya and her role was described as “magical”. In 2007 she did Aalwar and Pokkiri of which only later was a hit. Asin biggest film till date is Dasavathaaram with Kamal Hasan. In the movie she played a double role and won ITFA Best Actress Award.
Asin made her Bollywood debut in 2008 in Ghajini which was a remake of the Tamil film with the same name. She played a lead role opposite Amir Khan. The movie became the highest grosser film of the year and is still the 4th highest grosser of all time. She portrayed the role of a artist in an advertising company, a girl full of confidence and is a total chatterbox. She won four awards for the film including the prestigious Filmfare Award for best debut female.
Her second Bollywood venture was London Dream with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. The movie was a total failure. She was offered four more Bollywood movies opposite top actors but rejected all of them to appear in Tamil movie Kaavalan.
In 2011 she appeared in another Bollywood movie Ready opposite Salman Khan. The movie opened to mammoth response and viewers loved every bit of it. The movie became the second highest grosser of all time after Dabbangg and collected 100 crores at Box Office.
Future Projects
Asin is currently shooting for Housefull 2 under Sajid Khan production and has been signed by Rohit Shetty for Bol Bachchan opposite Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Bachchan.
